DPM attends fifth ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Ministerial Meeting in New York

VGP – Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on September 26 attended the fifth ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Ministerial Meeting and held bilateral meetings with Palau’s President and the FMs of Ecuador and Ukraine in New York City, the U.S. on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

At the fifth ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Ministerial Meeting, nations reviewed outcomes of the implementation of the ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Action Plan in the 2017-2018 phase, especially prioritized areas such as economics, education, people-to-people exchanges, science-technology and renovation. 

They agreed to extend the Action Plan till 2019, heading to boost cooperation in trade, digital economy, development of small and medium-sized enterprises, sustainable development and cultural exchanges. 

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Minh asserted that Viet Nam attaches importance to the relationship between ASEAN and other organizations in the region, welcoming commitments of nations in the Pacific Alliance and stressing the crucial role of regional connection ties. 

Nations in ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance need to take advantages of current mechanisms, such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to strengthen trade facilitation, enhance an open market based on laws for the prosperity and happiness of their people. 

At the meeting with Palau’s President, and the FMs of Ecuador and Ukraine, Deputy PM Minh expressed thanks to their condolences over the passing of State President Tran Dai Quang. 

Leaders from these nations highlighted Viet Nam’s diplomatic achievements and its contributions to the region and international community, confirming to consider suggestions of Viet Nam and continue close coordination with Viet Nam to maintain peace and security in the world, contributing to international and regional sustainability, development and cooperation. 

The Vietnamese Deputy PM and Palau’s President Tommy Remengesau consented to enhance cooperation in health, aquaculture projects, protection of fishermen, soon ink the Memorandum of Understanding on Fisheries Cooperation and trade agreements to facilitate Viet Nam’s farm products to penetrate in Palau as well as bilateral agreement on aviation for Viet Nam’s airlines to launch operation in Palau. 

During the meeting with Ecuador’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility Jose Valencia, Mr. Minh welcomed Ecuador to open an Embassy in Viet Nam, suggesting the two sides promote delegation exchange at all levels. 

He proposed Ecuador soon recognize Viet Nam as a market economy and create favorable conditions for their businesses to seek for further investment opportunities. 

They agreed to establish some bilateral cooperative mechanisms, aiming to boost cooperation between the two sides and continue close coordination at multi-lateral forums. 

At the meeting with Ukrainian FM Pablo Klimkin, Mr. Minh suggested the Ukrainian Government ensure safety and security for Overseas Vietnamese in Ukraine and facilitate the Vietnamese to study and stabilize their lives in Ukraine.  

The two sides discussed issues related to the preparations of the Ukrainian President’s upcoming visit to Viet Nam.
