Deputy PM Minh and the Chinese State Councilor discussed measures to enhance bilateral ties in 2015, the year marking the 65th anniversary of Viet Nam-China diplomatic ties.

The two officials, who both are Chairmen of the Viet Nam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation, discussed in depth how to implement the common awareness that the Party General Secretaries of the two countries reached during their phone call on February 11. Ways to promote the unceasing development of the Viet Nam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the time to come were also mentioned in the talks.

They agreed to work closely to prepare for visits and contacts between high-ranking officials of the two Parties and countries, including the China visit by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The role of the Viet Nam-China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation will continue to be upheld in coordinating and boosting cooperative activities, the two officials said, pledging to well organize the 8th session of the committee in China within the first half of this year.

They concurred that the two countries will increase people-to-people friendship exchanges, control and maintain stability at sea, and sustain a stable, healthy development of their bilateral relationship.

At the talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry, both sides reflected the progression of bilateral relationship since the establishment of the comprehensive partnership, saying that 2015 is a significant year with a series of activities in honor of the 20th founding anniversary of Viet Nam – US diplomatic ties.

They also underscored the need to facilitate high-level visits as a means to push their ties forward.

The US Secretary of State extended New Year greetings to the government and people of Vietnam and reiterated the US administration’s invitation to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit the US in 2015.

The two leaders talked next steps to conclude the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations as scheduled and other areas of coordination.
