Deputy Minister Đinh Trung Tụng and UNICEF Chief Representative in Việt Nam Jesper Morch

Receiving Mr. Jesper Morch, UNICEF Chief Representative in Việt Nam, Deputy Minister Đinh Trung Tụng stated yesterday that Việt Nam’s joining in the Hague Convention marks an important turning point in perfecting its regime of international child adoption.

Mr. Jesper Morch said that UNICEF and the international community are ready to support Việt Nam in this work. The UNICEF representative proposed some measures to consolidate the information and experience sharing between the Vietnamese Justice Ministry and diplomatic agencies and international organizations.

Lauding UNICEF’s goodwill and proposals, Mr. Tụng was convinced that the cooperation programs on child adoption between the two sides will be further fruitfully realized, promoting child protection and care in Việt Nam.

Since 1975, UNICEF started cooperation programs with Việt Nam, focusing on improving children’s living standard and welfare. UNICEF pledged to closely work with Việt Nam to ensure that all children can enjoy equal opportunities.

Việt Nam signed 16 agreements on child adoption with other countries and territories by late 2008.
