Construction starts on Nghi Sơn 1 thermoelectric plant
VGP - PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng on June 3 signaled the construction of the Nghi Sơn 1 Thermal Power Plant in the Nghi Sơn Economic Zone in Thanh Hóa Province.
Nghi
Sơn 1 Thermal Power Plant, invested by the Electricity of Việt Nam (EVN), has the
capacity of 600MW and an annual output of 3.6 billion kWh. It will consume some
1.6 million tons of coal dust per year.

The
project is conducted in the EPC form by Japanese contractor Marubeni. The EPC
contract is worth some US $981 million, 85% of which comes from
The
plant’s first turbine will become operational in the 4th quarter of
2013 and the second in the 2nd quarter of 2014, helping to ensure
sufficient power supply to the Northern part of the central region and
facilitate socio-economic development here, especially the national-level Nghi
Sơn Economic Zone in Thanh Hóa.
At
the commencement ceremony, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng said the plant’s construction
creates conditions for the development of other important works in the zone,
including the Nghi Sơn 2 Thermal Power Plant (1,200 MW), Nghi Sơn Petrochemical
Plant with the annual capacity of 10 million tons, Nghi Sơn Cement Plant, and Nghi
Sơn Steel Plant.
The
PM asked the investor to coordinate closely with the contractors and the
locality to secure the construction progress.
