VGP – The 25th Congress of the International Primatological society was held on Tuesday in Ha Noi.

August 13, 2014 8:15 AM GMT+7

The 25th Congress of the International Primatological society

Under the title “Facing with challenges in preservation of primatological society,” the congress aimed to share knowledge and experience from research and practical projects on primatological preservation worldwide.

Around 900 delegates from 56 countries and territories joined the event.

A large number of them agreed that like other wild animals, primatological society is facing the risk of extinction due to illegal hunting, trafficking and restricted habitat.

According to the International Primatological Society, thanks to geographical and climate conditions, Viet Nam is among the group of rich biodiversity countries with numerous rare wild flora and fauna.

So far, Viet Nam has set up a rescue centre for primatological society in Cuc Phuong National Park in the northern province of Ninh Binh. The center has rescued around 260 individuals, helped reproduce around 240 individuals of 12 species and release 50 others to the nature.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan affirmed that Viet Nam has built and perfected a system of legal regulations on natural preservation and formulated over 2.2 hectares for over 30 national parks and 114 preservation sites.

Viet Nam, said Deputy Minister Tuan is coping with the challenge to preserve primatological society and seeks cooperation in the field with the international community.

The Vietnamese Government has raised investment for developing special forests in an effort to protect biodiversity including primatological society./.
