Congratulations to Republic of Korea on Liberation Day

VGP – State President Tran Dai Quang on August 15 sent a congratulatory message to President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in on the country’s 73rd Liberation Day (August 15).

The same day, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan extended congratulations to their RoK counterparts Lee Nak-yeon and Moon Hee-sang, respectively.

Deputy PM and FM Pham Binh Minh also sent a message of congratulations to RoK Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha.

Two countries oficially established diplomatic ties on December 22, 1992. Since then, relations between the two countries have been growing fruitfully in different fields.

Currently, the RoK is Viet Nam’s largest foreign investor, with accumulative registered capital of over US$60 billion. Up to 5,500 Korean firms are operating in Viet Nam and creating millions jobs for Vietnamese workers.

Two-way trade between Viet Nam and the RoK hit US$61.5 billion in 2017, a year-on-year increase of 41.3%. Viet Nam’s exports to the RoK reached US$14.8 billion, while its imports from the RoK stood at US$46.7 billion, up 30% and 45.3% against 2016, respectively, according to the General Department of Viet Nam Customs.

In 2017, around 2.5 million Korean tourists visited Viet Nam, while the number of Vietnamese holidaymakers to the RoK surged by 70%. People-to-people exchanges have been also held at all levels and in all fields.
