In his opening remarks, PM Phuc asked delegates to frankly point out the obstacles that are currently hindering the exports activities, thereby discussing relevant solutions to remove those barriers.

He said that Viet Nam’s exports surpassed US$200 billion for the first time in 2017, with large revenues recorded in the industries of electronics, manufacturing, agriculture, and some other products.

Viet Nam has almost finalized the access of new markets pursuant to 12 free trade agreements (FTA) which it has already signed and has been negotiating, the leader stated, hailing this as an important foundation to relieve the country’s dependence on only some partners and some industries, thus contributing to enhancing the self-reliance of the economy.

The PM put forward five big questions for participants to clarify, including how to increase the added value of Viet Nam’s exports, the initiatives needed to remove big “knots” in exports, how to keep Vietnamese firms updated with the market information, how to develop export markets, and the weak stages in Viet Nam’s exports at present.

He called for constructive ideas from scientists, strategists, and experienced experts, both at home and abroad.

Based on the ideas raised at the conference, the PM will promulgate a directive on a number of measures to develop production and boost exports, he added.
