Accordingly, the planning scope will cover more than 27,000 hectares in Nui Thanh townlet and the communes of Tam Quang, Tam Hiep, Tam Hoa, Tam Anh Bac, Tam Anh Nam, Tam Tien and Tam Nghia in Nui Thanh district; the communes of Tam Thanh, Tam Phu and Tam Thang communes, and An Phu ward in Tam Ky city; and the communes of Binh Hai, Binh Sa, Binh Nam, Binh Trung, Binh Tu, Binh Trieu, Binh Minh and Binh Dao in Thang Binh district.

The objective of the planning is to construct the Chu Lai Open EZ in line with the national development strategy and the Viet Nam sea development strategy, and into a region with vibrant and sustainable economic development; a center for tourism, service, urban, industrial, logistics and agricultural development in the region; and a locomotive economic region of Quang Nam province with synchronous and modern socio-technical infrastructure.

The Chu Lai Open EZ is a multi-sector marine economic zone, functioning as one of the major nucleus and development centers of the Central Key Economic Region; one of the important hubs for transportation, and international trade and exchange in the Central and Central Highlands region; and a gateway for Viet Nam’s Central Highlands, Southern Laos, Northeastern Cambodia, and Thailand, to the East Sea.

The population size of the Chu Lai Open EZ is forecast to increase by 550,000-600,000 until 2035 from more than 128,000 at present, while the EZ’s land area for industrial construction is expected to reach 5,000 hectares.

According to the decision, the planning should be mapped out within 12 months since the approval of the planning task.
