China-VN diplomatic ties marked in Beijing

VGP - The 68th anniversary of Viet Nam-China diplomatic ties was celebrated in Beijing on January 18.

January 19, 2018 11:19 AM GMT+7

Vietnamese Ambassador to China Dang Minh Khoi speaks at the ceremony to mark the 68th anniversary of Viet Nam-China diplomatic ties

The event was jointly organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in China and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC).

Vietnamese Ambassador to China Dang Minh Khoi highlighted the traditional neighbourliness and friendship between Viet Nam and China, which were established by late Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Mao Zedong, and nurtured by generations of the two countries’ leaders.

The bilateral relationship serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples as well as peace, co-operation and development. As close neighbouringcountries, both Viet Nam and China want to maintain a stable and peaceful environment to promote innovation and the nation-building cause, he said.

Viet Nam always considers the development of friendship and cooperation with China one of the top priorities in her foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation of international relations, he added.

He cited China’s statistics that two-way trade increased 23.4% to US$121.3 billion in 2017.

The two contries are good partners within the framework of regional and global multilateral cooperation such as ASEAN-China, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, and the United Nations (UN).

In 2018, ASEAN and China will mark the 15th anniversary of their strategic partnership, he noted.

Mr. Khoi hoped the Viet Nam-China relations will enter a new development period with increasing political trust and pragmatic cooperation in all fields, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
