China asked to respect VN’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa, Truong Sa

VGP – Viet Nam asks China to respect Viet Nam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes, avoiding any activities that raise tensions and complicate the situations in the region.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang made that statement in response to the query about Viet Nam’s reactions to China’s organization of the seventh Sinan Cup Regatta, a sailing competition, from April 22-26, 2019 at the area of Duy Mong island belonging to Viet Nam’s Hoang Sa archipelago.

Viet Nam has full legal foundations and historical evidence to affirm its sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa in line with international laws.

China’s organization of the seventh Sinan Cup Regatta in Hoang Sa has seriously violated Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the archipelago, going against the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea issues between Viet Nam and China and the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), complicating the situations and bringing no benefits to the maintenance of peace, stability and cooperation in the East Sea.

Regarding the reporter’s questions about recent developments in the Korean Peninsula, Hang said: Viet Nam supposes that all related sides must strictly and fully comply relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council as well as enhances dialogues heading to establishing the Korean Peninsula of denuclearization, making contributions to peace, security, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

When asked about the recent trade conflicts between the U.S. and China, the Spokesperson said that: This is the common concerns of the world as it affects to the global trade and the world’s economic stability.

Viet Nam has paid attention to the case and expected the two nations to soon address disputes through dialogues and negotiations in the spirit of mutual respect, cooperation and knowledge in accordance with international laws and commitments, making contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
