Minister Antonio Walker made the announcement on October 27 while receiving Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Nguyen Ngoc Son.

The host leader praised the dynamic development of Viet Nam and treasured the Vietnamese Government for approving Chilean cherry imports. In return, Chile approved the import of Vietnamese grapefruit.

According to Mr. Walker, the Chilean Government hoped to cooperate with Viet Nam in agricultural sector not only in agro exports but also farming and rural development.

Earlier, Vietnamese mango and dragon fruits were allowed to export to Chile.

The Viet Nam Fruit and Vegetable Association reported that Viet Nam’s pomelo export turnover jumped from US$ 1.19 million in 2015 to US$ 4.8 million in 2019. Vietnamese pomelo fruits are expected to get permission to the U.S. market at the end of this year. Pomelo also represents a fruit of priority for official export negotiation to China.  The EU and the U.S. are potential market for Vietnamese pomelo exports./.
