The Government leader made the point on April 4 in Ha Noi while hosting a reception for Canadian Ambassador to Viet Nam Deborah Anne Paul.

The host leader congratulated the newly appointed Ambassador in Viet Nam. He was convinced that with her extensive experience, the Ambassador would contribute to cementing and deepening the relations in both bilateral and multilateral scopes.

Deputy PM Minh assessed that the bilateral ties have been flourished especially following the establishment of the comprehensive partnership in November 2017 during the official visit of Canadian PM Justin Trudeau to Viet Nam on the occasion of the APEC Summit Week.

He also lauded the prospects of the bilateral ties, calling upon the two sides to boost exchanges of delegations especially high-ranking ones; promote trade ties in 2019 in the context that Viet Nam and Canada are CPTPP members and Viet Nam is Canada’s largest trade partner in ASEAN.

Regarding investment, Canada ranked 14th out of countries and territories investing in Viet Nam with 174 projects worth over US$ 5 billion. However, the host leader also recommended Canada diversify its investment domains in Viet Nam as over 90% of the investment inflows chiefly focus on real estate.

On this occasion, Deputy PM Minh expressed his gratitude and hoped to receive more ODA in favor of sustainable growth especially in social field.

In reply, Ambassador Deborah Anne Paul expressed her impression of Viet Nam’s development achievements and the country’s role and positions in the region and the world.

Canada, said the new Ambassador, highly values Viet Nam’s responsibility in international issues. Canada also promises to continue supporting Viet Nam’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-2021 period.

The guest also voiced her support for Viet Nam as the Chairman of ASEAN 2020./.
