Can Tho destined for APEC Food Security Week

VGP –The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organized the Food Security Week in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho as part of the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Viet Nam from August 18-25.

The event is aimed at promoting growth and cooperation to deal with challenges and highlight a priority of APEC 2017 to spur food security and sustainable agriculture in response to climate change; promote sustainable agriculture and fishery development by applying advanced science and technology in production management and sustainable use of natural resources; control food waste in the supply chain; and encourage the application of science and technology in production and management.

These events will foster public-private partnership, create a favorable environment for sustainable infrastructure development, and strengthen cooperation in improving food safety and hygiene.

Four working groups on food security and climate change, technical cooperation in agriculture, biotechnology and agriculture, and aquaculture will arrange these events expected to happen from August 18 to 20.

Policy-related meetings on relevant issues will take place on August 21-22. The four groups will meet to share experience on August 24. Finally, a high-level conference is set to take place on August 25.

In addition to a startup forum, a field trip will be organized to introduce major farm produce in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta as a whole, such as rice, seafood and fruits./.
