The municipal People’s Committee has instructed relevant agencies to strengthen trade promotion in Russia, partly by coordinating with Vietnamese trade centers there to hold exhibitions and fairs to introduce the city’s international-standard goods, especially seafood.

The city pledged to assist enterprises to modernize technology and equipment in order to better quality and competitiveness of their products.

At a recent seminar on Việt Nam-Russia trade held by the Cần Thơ branch of the Việt Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Nguyễn Chí Tâm, Director of the European Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said Việt Nam in general and Cần Thơ in particular should boost the export of seafood and agro-produce to Russia because these are essential products for Russian consumers.

Cần Thơ collected US $20 million from seafood and farm products to Russia in 2008, up 69.4% against 2007.
