Cam Ranh to become a key container port in region
VGP - The Việt Nam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) on Wednesday kicked off the construction of a 50,000 DWT wharf in Cam Ranh Seaport, central province of Khánh Hòa. The project is part of the country’s plan to upgrade the seaport to a key container entrepôt in the region.

Deputy PM Hoàng Trung Hải remarked that this project would help to free up the socio-economic and trade potentials of the province, the Central Region and the Central Highlands as well as to ease pressure on the ports in Hồ Chí Minh City.
Cam Ranh Seaport is emerging as a busy transport hub with a growth rate of over 10% per year, thus the facilities are getting overloaded. Last year, over 1,3 million tons of goods transited there.
Once the wharf comes into operation, the seaport’s loading capacity will be raised to 2.5-3 million tons/year. 50,000 DWT vessels can anchor in the port.
The VND-520 billion project is totally funded by Vinalines which also plans to build a rail system linking the national railway network with the port to facilitate goods transport inland.
