Ca Mau reaped a seafood output of 35,000 tons in January, up 3% against last January, including aquaculture output of 22,000 tons, up 5%. It gained seafood export turnovers of nearly US$60 million, surging 16%, the highest rate in the last 5 years.

This year, Ca Mau is boosting aquaculture of white-legged shrimps and prawns on an industrial scale. It currently has 5,000 ha of large-scale shrimp and prawn raising farms with an average productivity of 5 tons per hectare. The productivity of white-legged shrimps is 8 tons per hectare.

Ca Mau is centering on ensuring supply of 80% of clean baby shrimps and prawns to breeders, transferring modern farming techniques to farmers and ensuring bank loans for them to promote the development of household-based economy.
