CPI in Jan. down 0.2%

VGP – The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the first month of 2015 decreased 0.2% against December, 2014 and a year-on-year increase of 0.94%, according to the General Statistics Office.

This is the lowest CPI rate recorded in January since 1998.

Three out of the 11 items calculated witnessed a decline in prices, including transport down 3.96%, housing, building materials, electricity, water and fuel down 1.09%, and the telecommunication group down 0.07%.

 Restaurants and food services slightly rose 0.28%, much lower than the figures of 0.78% and 1.34% of the same period in 2014 and 2013, respectively.

The prices of food, foodstuff and outdoor dining saw increases of 0.03%, 0.42% and 0.11%, respectively.

Other groups posted slight rises in prices such as beverage and tobacco up 0.37%, garment and hats and footwear up 0.51%.  

Among 63 provinces and cities nationwide, only the central city of Da Nang recorded the CPI rise, with 0.05%. 

Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City experienced a CPI drop, 0.48% and 0.17% compared to the previous month, respectively.
