The event was jointly hosted by the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV), the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ), and the Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA).
Addressing the event, Deputy PM Hai proposed Vietnamese and Australian experts and businesses work closely and give comments for the domestic agricultural sector to raise added value, build large-scale production, develop in a sustainable manner and gradually join the global value chain.
Mr. Hai hailed the linkages between Viet Nam and Australia in many areas, especially in agriculture. Australia set footholds in big projects in Viet Nam and contributed to restructuring the domestic agricultural sector.
With 70% of population in rural areas, Viet Nam still relies on imported food. In 2014, the country imported 240,000 meat cows (chiefly from Australia) and 1.5 million tons of raw meal to meet 70% of domestic demands.
The Government leader called for concrete measures to resolve small-scale breeding; improve the quality of breeding animals and nutrition to prepare for the integration process for the breeding industry which was forecast to face fierce impacts./.
