The deputy PM made the statement during his working session with leaders of the southern province on February 14 concerning the local socio-economic development situation.

He praised Binh Duong’s efforts in boosting economic development, caring for the lives of people, increasing local budget revenue, and attracting and effectively using foreign investment capital, in association with economic, social and urban development and environmental protection.

Deputy PM Hue asked the province to give recommendations to the Government in building institutions and policies for developing smart cities, and in building new-style rural areas attached with urban development and developing sustainable motive economic zones.

He urged central ministries and sectors to focus on removing difficulties concerning investment capital for important infrastructure projects in the southern key economic region and Binh Duong province.

The southern province was requested to attach importance to developing financial and logistics services with a higher growth rate than the GRDP growth rate.

At the meeting, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Thanh Liem said that the local economy grew quite well across all fields in 2018, with the people’s life improved and the  political security and social order and safety maintained. Binh Duong’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) increased by 8.68%, exceeding the annual plan, while the per capita income reached more than VND130 million (US$5,590) per year, over twofold increase compared to the national average.

Last year, Binh Duong was also voted as one of the 21 cities in the world with exemplary strategies for smart city development by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF). It is also the first city in Viet Nam to become an official member of the ICF.
