In the capital city, the prices of nine among 11 groups of goods and services have gone up, except transport, housing, electricity, fuel, and housing materials.

Food and catering services, beverages and cigarettes have seen the highest jump in price, by 0.51% and 0.72% respectively.

The city’s CPI in the first half of this year is estimated to rise 5.13%, increasing from 2.51% last year, according to the Department.

The CPI in June increases more slowly than three previous consecutive years, yet remains high owing to high and fluctuant prices of seafood, livestock and poultry.

Hồ Chí Minh City, the country’s biggest economic hub has seen the sharpest hike in the prices of cultural-recreational-tourism services and housing-electricity-water-construction materials, by 0.93% and 0.87% respectively, followed by catering services 0.57%, other services 0.56%, and postal services 0.42%.

Fees of transport decrease 0.62%. After sliding down by 0.39% in May, food continues to drop in price by 0.03% this month thanks to the higher supplies.

The prices of foodstuffs has risen 0.69%, including a 0.42% increase in the price of processed meat, eggs 1.96%, fresh seafood 0.78%, beans 1.03%, vegetables 2.38%, fruits 1.76%, and sugar 0.45%. However, the prices of pork have gone down by 0.13% and beef by 0.2%.

The price jump of the housing-electricity-water-construction materials group is attributed to the strong jump in water 3.29% and electricity 3.73%.

The price of gold in June increases 3.66% in Hà Nội and 3.49% in Hồ Chí Minh City. Yet the price of US dollar decreases 0.08% and 0.09% against May in these two centers respectively.
