Biggest cities see slight CPI jump in June
VGP - Hà Nội’s consumer price index (CPI) in June is estimated to rise 0.21% against May and 9.44% year-on-year while the figures in Hồ Chí Minh City are 0.35% and 9.55% respectively, according to the local Departments of Statistics.
In the capital city, the prices of nine
among 11 groups of goods and services have gone up, except transport, housing,
electricity, fuel, and housing materials.

Food and catering services, beverages and
cigarettes have seen the highest jump in price, by 0.51% and 0.72%
respectively.
The city’s CPI in the first half of this
year is estimated to rise 5.13%, increasing from 2.51% last year, according to
the Department.
The CPI in June increases more slowly
than three previous consecutive years, yet remains high owing to high and
fluctuant prices of seafood, livestock and poultry.
Hồ Chí Minh City, the country’s biggest economic hub has seen the sharpest
hike in the prices of cultural-recreational-tourism services and
housing-electricity-water-construction materials, by 0.93% and 0.87%
respectively, followed by catering services 0.57%, other services 0.56%, and
postal services 0.42%.
Fees of transport decrease 0.62%. After sliding down by 0.39% in May, food
continues to drop in price by 0.03% this month thanks to the higher supplies.
The prices of foodstuffs has risen 0.69%, including a 0.42% increase in the
price of processed meat, eggs 1.96%, fresh seafood 0.78%, beans 1.03%,
vegetables 2.38%, fruits 1.76%, and sugar 0.45%. However, the prices of pork
have gone down by 0.13% and beef by 0.2%.
The price jump of the housing-electricity-water-construction materials group
is attributed to the strong jump in water 3.29% and electricity 3.73%.
The price of gold in June increases 3.66% in Hà Nội and 3.49% in Hồ Chí Minh City. Yet the price of US dollar decreases 0.08% and 0.09%
against May in these two centers respectively.
