The annual “Consortium for Unfavorable Rice Environments” (CURE) jointly hosted by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Việt Nam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS) today offers Việt Nam more chances to improve its application of scientific and technological advances in agriculture.

Việt Nam is one of ten IRRI members who are involving in CURE. Other participants are  Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, and Thailand.

Việt Nam is also conducting researches on salt, flood and drought-proof rice varieties as well as seeking for measures to guarantee food security and sustainable poverty alleviation, minimize negative impacts of agricultural production on the environment, manage natural resources and mitigate effects of climate change.

According to CURE, it is necessary to introduce new rice varieties to unfavorable rice environments in order to improve the life of local farmers.
