Bai Choi art receives UNESCO heritage certificate
VGP - Binh Dinh province held a ceremony on May 5 to receive a UNESCO certificate recognising “Bai Choi” singing, a popular folklore style of singing in the central and south central regions of Viet Nam, as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The ceremony also featured a wide range of bai choi performances as well as other songs and dances typical of the central region.
This is the occasion to honor and promote the special values of the art of Bai Choi in Central Viet Nam to domestic and international visitors at the same time raise the awareness of preserving and promoting the values of this cultural heritage, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of Central provinces.
Also within the framework of the ceremony, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced a National Action Program to protect and promote the values of the intangible cultural heritage – the art of Bai Choi in Central Viet Nam.
Bai choi singing was added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during the 12th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Republic of Korea on December 7 - 8, 2017.
Bai Choi is a type of folk art and folk games featured in the Central of Viet Na. Throughout history, it has been developed into a festival. Bai Choi is annually organized at the beginning of the year to welcome a new year. It is the chance for people to communicate through songs and to entertain with games.
