Bắc Ninh was a cultural cradle in the past and it is now an industrial hub of the Northern economic region

The locality jumped to 10th among 63 provinces nationwide in terms of industrial production in 2009 from 19th in 2004. Construction-industry sector makes up 64.8% of the local economy, service and agriculture sectors account for some 24% and 11% respectively.

Its total 15 industrial parks, especially a newly-founded zone to reduce import of input materials, have largely contributed to the changing economic structure.

In terms of investment attraction, the province has welcomed over 4,300 enterprises and US $3.4 billion of FDI capital during the past five years, becoming the country’s 7th biggest FDI-receiving locality and the 2nd in the Northern economic region.

However, Bắc Ninh still faces challenges, namely low percentage of value-added products and manufacturing and auxiliary industries.

During his one-day working visit there, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng on Tuesday urged the province to further tap its own advantages, such as geographical location (adjacent to Hà Nội capital city), fairly good infrastructure and human resources.

The Government chief suggested Bắc Ninh apply scientific and technological advances in order to become an industrial provinces in the near future.
