Bắc Kạn scores positive growth but challenges still great

VGP – In the first half of 2009, Bắc Kạn’s economic growth stood at 7.68%, a higher figure against the same period last year, said Chairman Trương Chí Trung of the local People’s Committee.

However, the Chairman noted that the growth rate was far to reach the preset target of 19% for the whole year.

Naming challenges to the northern province, Mr. Trung added that industrial-construction values remain low and it is difficult to implement industrial projects.

Regarding solutions to address the challenges in the second half of the year, Bắc Kạn plans to focus its investment on agriculture and forestry development; continue to adjust cultivated crop structure to raise people’s incomes; kick off the construction of hospitals and houses for workers in industrial parks; speed up and closely supervise the disbursement of capital construction projects.

Besides, the locality will continue stepping up administrative reforms, reducing poverty and ensuring social security.

Especially, Bắc Kạn is striving to implement a project on sustainable poverty reduction in the most two poorest districts of Ba Bể and Pác Nặm.
