B2C e-commerce estimated to reach US$8.06 billion in 2018

VGP – Business-to-consumer e-commerce revenue was estimated at US$8.06 billion in 2018, representing year-on-year increase of 30%, according to the 2019 E-Commerce Whitebook released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on September 20.

The country's e-commerce revenue, including goods and services, accounted for 4.2% of the total retail sales of goods and services, up 1.4% from 2015.

As the number of internet users picked up 6% to 60% in 2015-2018, consumers conducted in e-commerce transactions rose from 30.3 million to 39.9 million in the reviewed period, the Whitebook shows.

The Whitebook also shows that 61% of clothes, footwear and cosmetics were bought online while online transactions for home appliances and food accounted for 46% and 34% respectively.

The value of each online transaction worth above VND 5 million (over US$200) climbed to 35% in 2018 from 24% in 2017.

The quality of service and price were the two most important factors for consumers to make online transaction decisions.

The Whitebook also reveals that 64% of the respondents said they bought goods on international websites./.
