The General Department for Seas and Islands under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, on June 4, in coordination with the Quảng Bình Department of  Natural Resources and Environment, launched the Việt Nam Sea and Island Festival in  Đồng Hới City, Quảng Bình Province, to respond to the World Environment Day (June 5) and the World Oceans Day (June 8).

Addressing the festival’s opening ceremony, President Triết affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State have paid due attention to sea and island issues in socio-economic development, national security and defense.

The State President stressed that in the coming time, it is necessary to raise public awareness of the importance of seas and islands; strengthen management and protection to keep sea and island environment clean; and further tap marine resources to serve people’s life.

On June 4, a trade fair on sea-borne economy was opened with 75 booths. The event was aimed at facilitating business opportunities and encouraging investment in tapping marine and coastal resources in Việt Nam.
