Australian leading investor eyes renewable energy opportunities in VN

VGP - Macquarie Capital has conducted careful researches and will launch large-scale renewable energy projects in Viet Nam, said Mr. John Walker, President and CEO of Macquarie Group Limited.

President John Walker made the announcement while meeting with Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung on March 25 in Ha Noi.   

Deputy PM Dung welcomed Macquarie Capital for their market researches on renewable energy development projects in Viet Nam. 

The host leader added that the Viet Nam-Australia strategic partnership has flourished. The two-way trade turnover outstripped US$ 7.7 billion in 2018, representing a year-on-year surge of 19.3%. 

So far, Australia has 425 FDI projects worth US$ 1.84 billion, ranking 19th out of foreign investors in Viet Nam. On the other hand, Viet Nam has 47 FDI projects in Australia with a total investment of US$ 256 million. Australia is the largest provider of non-refundable ODA for Viet Nam with AUD$ 92.7 million per year. 

According to Deputy PM Dung, there are wide doors for trade and investment cooperation. He was convinced that the investment of Macquarie Capital, a leading investor of Australia and the world with large-scale projects in Viet Nam would generate momentum for the two countries’ businesses. 

He affirmed that Viet Nam welcomes and will create favorable ways for world’s leading investors including Macquarie Capital to develop infrastructure, clean energy, and renewable energy. 

In reply, President John Walker expressed the aspiration to invest in Viet Nam especially in clean and renewable energy. In addition, the Australian group will research to develop infrastructure projects in the future, he added. 

According to the guest leader, thanks to transparent and open investment environment, Macquarie Capital would operate efficiently in Viet Nam. 

In Viet Nam, Macquarie Group is finalizing procedures to establish a representative office in Viet Nam and research investment projects on renewable energy especially wind energy production, solar energy, and garbage energy./.
