Mr. Lê Quốc Ân, President of the Việt Nam Textile Association, stated that the Government’s decision to not raise prices of ten key products and the State Bank’s introduction of the ceiling interest rates have rescued not only textile enterprises but also Việt Nam’s exporters.

The textile industry will positively seek for and expand its markets, diversify its supplies of materials and capital with the purpose to overcome difficulties and finalize the set targets.

A representative of the steel industry, Mr. Phạm Chí Cường, Chairman of the Steel Association, also highly spoke of the Government’s solutions.

In the time to come, the Association will require its members to announce publicly their factory prices, so that clients can control selling prices. The Association will also consolidate its direct distribution network and minimize intermediary steps to prevent price speculation.

To ensure material supplies, the industry will accelerate the construction of steel factories so as to meet 50% of the demand for domestically-produced materials this year and 70% in 2010.

Addressing the meeting, Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Việt Nam (EuroCham) Alain Cany maintained that the Vietnamese Government’s measures are proper.

He urged Việt Nam’s enterprises to rely on their own strengths and improve competitiveness to rather than depending on the Government. “The Government only sets macro policies. If domestic enterprises fail to save themselves, they can’t survive in the world full of changes”, said Mr. Alain Cany.

VCCI Chairman Vũ Tiến Lộc stated that in the current hard time, associations and enterprises should join hands and assist each other to overcome difficulties.
