Asia-Pacific female scientists’gathering to be held in Ha Noi

VGP - Some 200 female scientists in the Asia-Pacific region will gather at the eighth meeting of the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists-Asia and Pacific Nation Network (INWES-APNN) in Ha Noi from October 18-29 to seek ways to promote female participation and contribution in science and technology.​

Vice President of the Viet Nam Women’s Union and the Viet Nam Association for Intellectual Women Nguyen Thi Hoi said a Ha Noi Declaration will be adopted on October 19, outlining the commitments of APNN members towards strengthening cooperation and coordination, as well as sharing experience between female scientists and engineers in the region to further contribute to the growth of the region, the world, and the implementation of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The declaration will acknowledge the importance of female scientists in sustainable growth and the development of economies during the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as well as the necessity to narrow the gender gap in science and technology, she added.

During the three-day meeting, participants are expected to take part in discussions on gender and gender equality in science and technology, food safety and nutrition, and natural disaster risk management and climate change adaptation.  

The annual Asia and Pacific Nations Network APNN meeting will give participants the chance to discuss, make recommendations to strengthen co-operation among the members which include 13 countries and territories of Viet Nam, Australia, Bangladesh, Japan, India, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan (China).  

Also, three thematic workshops will be held simultaneously, focusing on gender and gender equality in science and technology, food safety and nutrition, and natural disaster risk management and climate change adaptation.  

The 8th annual meeting of the APNN will be jointly held by Viet Nam Women’s Union and Viet Nam Association for Intellectual Women under the theme Women Scientists for Sustainable Development in the Digital Age.

Established in 2011, APNN belongs to the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES) which has expanded its operations to over 60 countries and territories worldwide and is a partner of UNESCO.
