Array of major infrastructure facilities put into operation in 2018

VGP – The year 2018 witnessed a series of major facilities and projects having been put into operation, marking a flourishment in terms of the country’s infrastructure development.

- On March 17, 2018, the northern province of Quang Ninh put into operation a modern multifunctional gymansium, covering an area of nearly 150,000 square meters and accommodating 5,000 seats.

 

- The Ha Long-Hai Phong Expressway and Bach Dang Bridge, connecting Quang Ninh – Hai Phong – Ha Noi, opened to traffic on September 1, 2018. It was the largest transport project in the northern province of Quang Ninh, which was built at a cost of over VND13.6 trillion (US$584.8 million) and kick-started a series of new transport projects invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) across the country.

- The Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway officially opened to traffic on September 2, running through Da Nang city and the provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai. Construction of the expressway began on May 19, 2013 at a cost of more than VND34.5 trillion (US$1.48 billion)

- Cao Lanh Bridge across the Tien River was put into operation on May 27, meeting the expectations of the people in Dong Thap province in particular and in the Mekong Delta as a whole. The VND6.49 trillion (US$279 million) bridge measures 7.8 kilometers in length, including 2.1 kilometers of bridge section and 5.7 kilometers of roadway.

- The Ha Long-Van Don Expressway, which stretches nearly 60 kilometers and costs approx. VND12 trillion (US$516 million), officially opened to traffic on December 30. This is the key project connecting the economic triangle of Ha Noi-Hai Phong-Quang Ninh, contributing to boosting socio-economic development in Quang Ninh province as well as in the northern key economic region.

- Van Lang Bridge, spanning 1.5 kilometers across the Red River and connecting the National Highway 32 with Phu Tho province’s Viet Tri city, was put into operation on October 10, 2018. The total investment for the project was more than VND1.46 trillion (US$62.78 million).

- The Hoa Lac (Ha Noi)-Hoa Binh Road, invested with more than VND2.7 trillion (US$116.1 million), opened to traffic on October 10.

- The Van Don International Airport in northern Quang Ninh province was finalized and greeted the first commercial flight on December 30.

- The Ha Long International Passengers Port (Quang Ninh province) has a total investment of more than VND1 trillion (US$43 million). It welcomed the first five-star international cruise ship on November 27.

- The TTC Phong Dien Solar Power Plant (Thua Thien Hue province) was put into operation in early October, and will generate about 60 million kWh of electricity per year.
