The latest data published by the MPI show that about 2.2 million foreign guests have dropped in Việt Nam in the January-May period, making a 37% increase against the same period last year.

Those visitors chiefly came from China, Australia, Republic of Korea, Thailand, France, Malaysia and the US. Especially, the figure of Chinese tourists surged unexpectedly by 111% year-on-year.

Among the most attractive local destinations, Hồ Chí Minh City has lured over 1.3 million foreign arrivals, accounting for more than 50% of the total to Việt Nam in the first five months.

According to domestic experts, in 2010, Việt Nam owns numerous opportunities to entice foreign guests as the country plans to hold big cultural events like the Millennium of Thăng Long-Hà Nội (September 30 and October 15) and Việt-Đà Nẵng Craft Village Festival (May 19-22).

To continue the success of the industry, many tourism companies, travel agencies and localities throughout the country will launch attractive tourism promotion campaigns.

Đà Nẵng, the largest city in Central Việt Nam, will launch a sale-off program (5-25%) in August and September in an attempt to lure more foreign arrivals.

The central coast province of Khánh Hòa will provide 30-50% discounts for international visitors who fly directly to its Cam Ranh International Airport and stay at three-to-five-star hotels./.
