Argentina considers VN as crucial partner in Southeast Asia

VGP – Argentina regards Viet Nam a crucial partner in the Southeast Asian region and hails the role and position of Viet Nam in the region and the world, said Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship Jorge Faurie at his talks with Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh on July 30 in Ha Noi.

At the talks, the two leaders expressed their delight at the growth of Viet Nam-Argentina cooperation over the recent 45 years in all fields, especially the bilateral trade exceeding US$3 billion in 2017, 10 times higher than the figure from a decade ago.

Deputy PM Minh thanked the Argentine side for supporting Viet Nam’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 tenure and welcomed Argentina’s signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

He proposed Argentina promptly finalize procedures to open its market for Vietnamese fruits such as lychee, dragon fruit, longan, and mango. 

Mr. Jorge Faurie affirmed that Argentina expects to expand friendship and all-round cooperation with Viet Nam, especially in economy, trade, and technology, thus creating favorable conditions for connecting their businesses and balancing bilateral trade.

Both sides agreed to continue maintaining and increasing the exchange of high-level visits and among ministries and sectors, while effectively implementing the mechanisms of the Inter-Governmental Committee and Political Consultation at the deputy foreign ministerial level.

The host and the guest were unanimous in enhancing the negotiations, signing, and implementation of specific cooperation programs in the fields of agriculture, pharmaceuticals, processing and manufacturing industry, information and technology, biotechnology, security and defense, and tourism.

Both sides affirmed to continue close coordination and support for each other at international organizations and multilateral forums.

At the talks, the two sides also discussed regional and international issues of shared concern, including the East Sea issue.

The same day, Mr. Faurie had working sessions with Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan and joined leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to co-chair a regional conference on technology cooperation in agriculture and industry in Ha Noi.
