Agricultural restructuring looks to efficiency

VGP – The agricultural sector will look to improve the efficiency to raise income for farmers while restructuring its operation in 2012, said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Đức Phát.

December 28, 2011 6:24 PM GMT+7

This is part of a draft project on agricultural restructuring.

In 2012, the agricultural sector will attach importance to developing aquaculture, husbandry and cultivation.

Minister Phát stressed the importance of selecting appropriate seeds and animals and applying suitable technologies in each locality for achieving higher added value of products.

The Minister suggested the restructuring of investment. Especially, the agricultural sector will increase investment in an irrigation system for aquaculture cultivation instead of mobilizing people’s capital contribution.

Production models will be altered. Accordingly, State-owned enterprises (SoEs) will be renovated. The models of family-based farms, farmhouses, and new economic ones will receive more support.

The Minister said that the restructuring process must be reliant upon market fluctuations. He also hoped that the restructuring would make substantial changes in the next five years./.
