Viet Nam has now been actively participating in and promoting its membership in international economic organizations.

Regarding bilateral cooperation, Viet Nam has established diplomatic ties with more than 185 countries around the world; expanded trade relations and exported goods to over 230 markets of countries and territories; and signed more than 90 bilateral trade agreements, nearly 60 investment promotion and protection agreements, 54 double taxation avoidance agreements and many bilateral cultural cooperation deals with countries and international organizations.

Viet Nam has fostered good relations with all powers, including the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (P5) and the Group of Eight (G8) nations.

In addition, the country has elevated its strategic partnership to comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership China and Russia, while establishing a strategic partnership with Japan, India, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom and Spain, France, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Australia.

The number of Viet Nam’s overseas representative agencies has increased to 96 agencies, including 65 embassies, 20 consulates-general, four permanent delegations to international organizations, and an economic-cultural office.

Concerning multilateral and regional cooperation, Viet Nam has maintained positive relationship with international financial and monetary organizations, such as the Asian Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Viet Nam’s international economic integration has been accelerated and elevated to a new level by the country’s joining regional and international economic and trade organizations and its signing of multilateral economic cooperation agreements.

In particular, Viet Nam’s international economic integration process has made an important step when it officially became a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on January 11, 2007, after 11 years of negotiations.

Viet Nam has now been actively participating in and promoting its membership in international economic organizations.

As a member of international economic organizations, such as the WTO, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Viet Nam has made constant efforts to fully and seriously implement its commitments, and has been actively engaged in activities within the framework of these organizations.

Viet Nam is always willing to be a friend of all countries in the international community, striving for peace, independence and development.
