ASEAN’s legislative and executive bodies boost cooperation
VGP - ASEAN is moving towards a Community which is based on the ASEAN Charter and this process requires essential participation of AIPA and parliaments of all member-states as well as the collaboration of the bloc’s legislative and executive bodies.

As Chair of ASEAN in 2010, PM
Nguyễn Tấn Dũng stressed that ASEAN is entering a new stage of development –
moving towards the ASEAN Community on the basis of the ASEAN Charter and this process requires essential
participation of AIPA and parliaments of all member-states as well as the
collaboration of the bloc’s legislative and executive bodies.
The Vietnamese Government
chief said that, by opening this meeting, ASEAN leaders want to listen to
opinions from AIPA about designing and realizing action programs and plans to
convert the preset goals into reality.
NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú
Trọng, also Chair of AIPA in the term of 2009-2010, lauded ASEAN leaders for
organizing the meeting. “This is an important forum for two biggest
regional organizations to discuss at the top level many regional issues,” stated
Chairman Trọng.
He described the building
of security-political, economic, and socio-cultural communities as ASEAN’s
vision to the future, which needs the efforts from all member-states as well as
close and effective collaboration of legislative and executive bodies.
Chairman Trọng sated that, by
undertaking the Chairmanship of AIPA in 2009-2010, the Vietnamese NA wants to
boost cooperation between AIPA and ASEAN in order to realize the adopted
resolutions and documents, for an ASEAN of solidarity, peace and prosperity; promote
ASEAN-AIPA dialogues; raise public awareness of ASEAN’s identities; strengthen
intra-ASEAN cooperation while expanding external cooperation.
