ASEAN tourists to VN increases remarkably

VNP - According to the Việt Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), from early 2008, the number of ASEAN tourists has increased 21%, reaching 473,000 turns out of 2.6 million international tourists to Việt Nam.

This was the fastest-growing market-share in the first seven months, exceeding the overall growth rate of international tourists to Việt Nam (10.6%).

The number of tourists from some neighbors sharply increased, such as Singapore (27.5%), Thailand (41.6%), Malaysia (21.6%) and the Philippines (55%).

Việt Nam’s roads linked to routes in Laos and Cambodia and simplified immigration procedures are two major reasons of the increasing number of travelers to the country.

Besides, Việt Nam is developing caravan tourism and opening more tours to its neighbor sharing the same borderline.

From now to the end of the year, the VNAT planned to enhance by-road tourist activities with Laos and Cambodia as well as other ASEAN countries by completing the master plan on tourist development in the border provinces of Việt Nam, Laos and Cambodia.

In the near future, some tourist ministerial meetings among Việt Nam, Laos and Cambodia will be held. Some discussions on tourist cooperation with Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore are also scheduled already.
