ASEAN opens conference on agriculture and forestry in HCMC

VGP – Senior agro-forestry officials from all ASEAN member states are gathering in a three-day conference in Hồ Chí Minh City to discuss the reports which will be submitted to the 31st ASEAN agriculture and forestry ministerial meeting to be held in Brunei this year.

Delegates to the conference, opened on Tuesday, also exchange ways to develop the current models of cooperation in order to better the poor’s access to food supplies; expand agricultural and forestry markets through concluding free trade agreements among ASEAN member countries; promote human resource training and technology transfer to raise the quality and competitiveness of agro-forestry products.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Bùi Bá Bổng asserted at the conference that Việt Nam always engages actively in regional and international cooperation mechanisms on these areas.

As part of the conference, the delegates will have fact-finding visits to the Mekong Delta, the country’s largest rice granary, to explore agro-forestry activities there.
