The ASEAN Politics-Security Community will bolster a safe and peaceful environment for the development in Southeast Asia through bringing the bloc’s political and security cooperation to a new height and encouraging contributions from external partners.

With its Economic Community, ASEAN look towards a single market with a common foundation for production and free movement of goods, services, investment flows, and labor force, so as to sharpen the region’s competitiveness, attraction and prosperity.

Meanwhile, the general target of the ASEAN Culture-Society Community is to serve and better the quality of ASEAN people’s life, settle issues relating social equality, cultural identities, environment, globalization and technological revolutions.

During the preparatory meetings, ASEAN senior officials focused their discussions on building these communities, implementing the ASEAN Charter, strengthening internal cooperation and linkages, bettering the bloc’s capacity in responding to global challenges.

The SEOM reviewed the progress in realizing the Blueprint on the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 and discussed directions to deepen the bloc’s economic integration. The meeting also adopted the final draft of the Việt Nam-initiated Statement on Sustainable Economic Recover and Development which will be submitted to the 16th ASEAN Summit for approval.

Senior officials in the Committee on the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) centered their discussions on identifying priorities for the construction of the ASCC.

Four major aspects of the SOCA included response to global challenges; development of human resources for economic recovery; promotion and protection of rights of women and children; and fostering cultural elements of the Community.
