VGP - Senior officials from APEC economies have voiced their support for the theme and priorities proposed by Viet Nam for the APEC Year 2017 during their meeting in Ha Noi on December 9.

Accordingly, a series of events next year will center on the theme “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future” amid sluggish recovery of regional and global trade and economic growth.

The member economies also agreed to continue promoting sustainable, innovative and inclusive growth; fostering far-reaching regional integration and connectivity; facilitating the development of MSMEs, and enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture.

Earlier, speaking at the symposium on the priorities of APEC Viet Nam 2017, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh urged APEC to further transform itself to reassert its relevance and better serve as the premium regional economic forum.

He suggested that APEC need to assume greater responsibility as an incubator and driver for economic growth and integration by enhancing global leadership in coordinating multi-layered FTAs and RTAs and supporting an open, transparent and inclusive multilateral trading system.

It is time to shape APEC’s post-2020 vision for an “Asia - Pacific Partnership for Sustainable and Inclusive Development in the 21st Century” - a genuine partnership for peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and beyond, Deputy PM, FM Minh said./.
