APEC Summit wraps up in Manila

VGP – The 23rd APEC Summit Week was successfully closed with strong messages and endeavours of member economies towards sustainable growth in favour of stability, justice, connectivity, and prosperity.

The APEC leaders on November 19 attended the second plenary session of the APEC Leaders’ Meeting.

They agreed that sustainable and self-reliant community is a basis for growth in the region and the world which are increasingly connected and undetermined.

The APEC leaders also highlighted the importance of developing human resources, innovations, and promotion of gender equality to promote self-reliance and sustainability.

They hailed the significance of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and the joint effort towards a global deal on climate change at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference - COP 21; and APEC’s cooperation on the field.

Addressing the event, State President Sang said that climate change and disasters have seriously impacted on the joint effort of APEC and the worldwide in ensuring growth.

The Vietnamese Head of State welcomed the adoption of the “Framework on disaster risk mitigation” and the “Action Plan on empowerment of self-reliance on food security,” regarding this as necessary and timely contributions to the implementation of the Sendai Framework.

He also proposed APEC member economies spare no effort to mitigate disaster risks by relying on community; combine efforts on food security and climate change respond.

Wrapping up the week-long event, the APEC leaders adopted the 23rd APEC Ecomomic Leaders’ Declaration - Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World: A Vision for an Asia-Pacific Community and the Statement on Supporting the Multilateral Trading System and the 10th WTO Ministerial Conference, and two attached documents namely the Annex to the APEC Strategy for Strengthening Quality Growth and the Annex B: APEC Services Cooperation Framework.

The 24th APEC Summit will take place in Peru in 2016./.
