Mr. Tej Bunnag spoke highly of potential cooperation with Việt Nam’s educational institutions, adding that AIT is seeking Vietnamese partners in both state and private sectors to set up universities here.

Mr. Nguyễn Thành Tài emphasized the city’s priorities to international cooperative programs on education to improve the workforce.

Keynote sectors such as biotechnology, banking, finance, new materials, electronics and information technology will be facilitated, Mr. Tài said.

He also expressed his hope to see more investors in training young labor force in rural areas with high-quality and reasonably-priced vocational programs.

In 1993, Việt Nam became the first overseas training establishment of AIT with two AIT centers in Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City (HCMC).

Five Vietnamese higher education institutions in the southern part have worked with AIT to provide postgraduate and PhD training courses, including Đà Lạt University, HCMC University of Agriculture and Forestry, HCMC University of Science, Cần Thơ University and the HCMC National University.

To date about 2,000 Vietnamese have attended AIT training courses and the Thailand-based Institute has shaken hands with ten Vietnamese partners.
