AIPA-31 to be held in VN

VGP - The 30th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-30) wrapped up today with the approval of the Joint Statement and many important resolutions. The General Assembly also decided that the AIPA-31 will be organized in Hà Nội, Việt Nam, on September 19-25, 2010.

Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives, AIPA-30 President Chai Chidchob hands over the hammer, symbol of AIPA, to Việt Nam’s NA Vice Chairperson Tòng Thị Phóng

At the closing session, Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives, AIPA-30 President Chai Chidchob handed over the hammer, symbol of AIPA, to the head of the Vietnamese NA delegation, NA Vice Charwoman Tòng Thị Phóng.

Speaking on behalf of the legislative body of Việt Nam, NA Vice Chairperson Tòng Thị Phóng stated that, undertaking the Presidency of the AIPA-31 is a great honor and responsibility of the Vietnamese NA. 

She was convinced that, with the supports and assistance from all members of AIPA and by its efforts, the Vietnamese NA, during its term of office, will promote the friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding in the AIPA Community; further raise the role, status and performance of the AIPA for the sake of peace and prosperity in the region and the world.

Earlier, AIPA-30 voted to approve several resolutions on regional economic integration, on AIPA’s role towards ASEAN; on the Doha Round; on promoting democracy and human rights; on measures to cope with economic recession; on enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation; and on building ASEAN identities.

During her attendance to AIPA-30, NA Vice Chairwoman Tòng Thị Phóng had a meeting with Mr. Cha Peixin, head of the Chinese NA delegation. She also met representatives of many delegations of the AIPA members, including Canada, Thailand, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and some observer and dialogue partners.
