A speech of humanity and mettle

VGP - The Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s speech at the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly attracted lots of attention from the public both at home and abroad.

Lt. Gen. Dong Sy Nguyen, former Politburo member, former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers

The Government Portal would like to introduce an article of Lt. Gen. Dong Sy Nguyen, a former Politburo member, former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers about the speech.

The speech is full of mettle, persuasive and delivered for the right people, at the right place. It really represents the voice of Vietnamese nationals. This is the voice of human conscience, of Vietnamese people for a world of peace, poverty reduction and sustainable development.

High-level discussion session of the United Nations General Assembly is the world’s largest forum and the issues that Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung mentioned in his speech are the problems of the world’s concerns. It can be seen as a manifesto, which presents Vietnamese people as well as others from similar countries.

Once again, after the Shangri-La Dialogue, the message of "strategic trust" was emphasized by the head of the Vietnamese Government as a crucial factor.

The Prime Minister stressed that the people of Viet Nam always have their political view, responsibility, and confidence for the fight for peace and progress of the mankind. Real fight for peace is a long and difficult struggle but people should have faith in peace. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has given a very simple message: Nations and the peoples should stop dead hand of war, of terrorism, of violence, and if they cannot prevent, do not abet and ignore.

He affirmed that keeping peace always requires the goodwill of all parties and that the role of the major powers is indispensable for "Strategic trust among nations must be constantly fostered with honesty, sincerity and concrete actions".

Viet Nam's position is that of a winner against two powerful empires in the world. After the war, over several decades of reform and nation building, we are harvesting the successes of the peace that make Viet Nam's position more clearly in the international arena, more dignifiedly and more powerfully.

For example, in his speech, the Prime Minister mentioned about our past as a country suffering food shortage, and in a very short period, we have become a leading food exporter in the world. It is a very special victory of Viet Nam. A country has risen up with pride as what we always teach the young generation “the power in our hands so with people’s hard working, even stones can become food”. It is a very vivid and persuasive example that the head of the Government of Viet Nam set out in his speech.

From my experience, Viet Nam has enthusiasm and persistence to help other developing countries to produce more rice, such as Cuba, Mozambique, Angola, Mali, Madagascar, Myanmar. It is not only the responsibility of a member of this world but also reflects the ethical “loving other people as loving ourselves" tradition of Viet Nam.

On this occasion, I would like to send my best congratulations to the Prime Minister and the accompanying delegation. Also on this occasion, I would recommend the Prime Minister to pay attention to mechanical engineering. Mechanical industry of Viet Nam has had a long tradition but has not developed high. As Prof. Tran Dai Nghia said: "a country without manufacturing industry can not keep up with others", I hope the industry will make our strong growth to better reflect the status of a country. This will contribute to the development, the overall success of the country, and make the voice of Viet Nam to the United Nations in the following times more powerful./.
