In the 2018 Profit500, the number of firms in construction, building materials, real estate (14.8%), electricity (12.8%), finance (11.2%), and food, beverages and cigarettes (10.4%) accounted for a majority of businesses on the list.

Average pre-tax profits of the top 500 enterprises in 2017 are 65% higher than last year. Telecommunications and IT have the highest average profits.

The average pre-tax profit of the top 500 most profitable companies in 2017 grew more than 65% from 2016. The sectors with the highest return on asset (ROA) and return on equity (REO) were telecommunications, information technology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation, food, beverages and cigarettes.

The escalating U.S.-China trade war and increasing U.S. import duties on some key commodities are raising concerns, as are volatile exchange rates and tax burdens. 51.4% of respondents cited exchange rates as the biggest difficulty affecting their performance over the past year, followed by taxation at 42.9%.

At the event to announce the list, enterprises praised the government's macro-economic management. Over 97% of surveyed enterprises say economic stability and the business environment in Viet Nam in 2018 so far is good or very good. More than 90% of enterprises expect higher revenue than last year.

Viet Nam’s businesses are accelerating investment and focusing on the strategy of establishing high-quality human resources.

The development of high-quality human resources is listed among top three prioritized strategies of these businesses in the upcoming year.

The biggest goal of businesses is to increase the capacity of laborers, which indirectly increases their revenues.
