45 countries and territories to compete at AI Games III in VN

VGP- Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Danh Thái made known that nearly 5,000 athletes, coaches, officials and staffs from 45 countries and territories will participate in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games (AI Games III) in Việt Nam.

AI Games III is scheduled in October 2009 and lasts for nine days in two major venues Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City, apart from other localities such as Hải Dương, Hải Phòng, Quảng Ninh, Bắc Ninh.
Athletes will compete in 24 sports, including Athletics, Swimming, Diving, Dancesport, Indoor Pentaque, Women Defense, Shuttle-cock, Sepak Takraw, Pencak Silat, Aerobic Gymnastics, Indoor Archery, Chess, Xiangqi, Indoor Football, Vovinam, and billiard & snooker.

AI Games is a multi-sports event held every two years, the first in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2005. The Games is regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia. This Games will be composed of sports with TV broadcasting potential and not included in the Asian Games, Winter Asian Games and Olympic Games.

Việt Nam obtained two gold medals, 5 silver and 11 bronze at AI Games II in Macau, China.
