40th anniversary of National Reunification celebrated

VGP - A ceremony was held on April 30 in Ho Chi Minh City to mark the 40th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2015).

Leaders of the Party, State, Government and National Assembly joined the event.

In his speech, PM Nguyen Tan Dung asserted that wirh the victory in 1975, Viet Nam fulfilled its historical mission to liberate the South, reunite the nation and take the country to a new era, the era of independence, unification and establishment of a Socialist Republic of Viet Nam with rich people, strong nation, democracy, fairness and civilization. 

In this moment, the whole Party, State and people memorize President Ho Chi Minh, former leaders of the Party, revolutionary veterans, Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of the armed forces, war invalids, martyr families, families with meritorious contribution to the country, he recalled.

PM Dung expressed sincere thanks to the people of  socialist countries, especially the Soviet Union and China for their support and assistance, both spiritual and material, to the struggle for national independence and reunification of Viet Nam.

He referred to economic achievements, such as becoming a middle income developing country with an annual average growth of 7%, GDP and export expanded by 7 folds and 200 folds respectively and a GDP per capita in 2015 amounting to US$2,200.

Viet Nam also needs to strengthen national defense and security, safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity, as well as public order and security, he confirmed, adding that efforts should also be undertaken to develop strong army and public security as well as the entire people’s defense and security strategies. 

Viet Nam is a friend and reliable partner, a responsible member in the international community, the PM highlighted, adding that the nation will continue to engage in equal cooperation for mutual benefits; observe the United Nations Charter; respect independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference into internal affairs of others, contributing to peace, national independence, democracy and social advance in the world.

He hoped that all the people will achieve the best possible outcomes of the five-year-plan 2011-2015 and successfully organize the Party congresses at all levels and the 12thNational Party Congress in 2015.
