At the event, Lam referred to challenges, including security and order issues ASEAN are facing, highlighting the importance of the role of law enforcement agencies of ASEAN nations, including police in struggling against crimes and ensuring national security and social order.

He stressed the birth of ASEANAPOL 40 years ago, aiming to connect the regional police forces and create strength to fight against trans-national crimes, adding that the ASEANAPOL has made progress with 10 country members, 10 dialogue partners and six observers, which have made contributions to protecting national security, maintaining social order and safety and guaranteeing people’s lives.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, Lam extended congratulations to police forces in the ASEANAPOL on their achievements over the recent 40 years and the 10thanniversary of the establishment of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in general and the nation’s police force in particular have made efforts in becoming an active and responsible member of the ASEANAPOL, he said, adding that the event has created an opportunity to strengthen the cooperative ties between member countries of the ASEANAPOL and partners in crime prevention and control.

The police forces between these nations should flexibly join hands in investigating cases as well as agree common voice and support each other at international forums, he suggested.

More than 300 foreign delegates, including heads and deputy heads of police forces from 10 nations in ASEAN, partner and dialogue countries, observers, representatives from Interpol and ASEAN participated in the event.
