28th annual VN-Laos border meeting held in Laos

VGP - Deputy Foreign Minister and head of the National Border Committee Le Hoai Trung and Lao Foreign Minister and head of the Laos-Viet Nam border committee Saleumxay Kommasith co-chaired the 28th annual Viet Nam-Laos border meeting on December 10 in Vientiane, Laos.

Viet Nam-Laos border landmark

Both sides reviewed and evaluated border cooperation and coordination in launching bilateral agreements on territorial borders between the two nations in 2018.

They agreed that the political security and social order and safety at border areas have been maintained and stabilized and their ministries, agencies and localities have effectively supported the development of border areas in all fields, making contributions to promoting the bilateral relationship in general and the two sides’ localities in particular.

In 2019, they will focus on border management collaboration in compliance with two legal documents on the matter as well as continue their implementation of the agreement on tackling undocumented migration and marriage to ensure progress keeps to schedule.

The sides planned to organize a conference before the end of the second quarter in 2019 to review the pilot of the single-window mechanism at the Lao Bao (Quang Tri Province, Viet Nam)-Densavan (Savannakhet, Laos) border gate pair. They said they will complete the opening and upgrade of border gate pairs in line with their agreements.

Concluding the meeting, heads of the Vietnamese and Lao delegations signed the minutes, agreeing to organize the 29th meeting in Viet Nam in the fourth quarter of 2019.
