This is the annual meeting which is organized in line with the ministerial meeting on trans-national drug crime. Viet Nam has invited some nations in the region and the international organizations to attend and discuss measures to enhance cooperation in struggling and preventing drug transported into the country.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Public Security To Lam highlighted the complex happenings on drug crimes, which tend to increase over the recent years.

The Vietnamese Government always gives priority to drug prevention and control tasks, focusing on resolute direction and synchronous implementation of measures to reduce demand, supply and consequences of drug as well as mobilizes all resources to take part in fighting against drug, he asserted.

The nation has gradually completed the legal system, concentrating on investment in resources for drug prevention and control, renewing and diversifying rehabilitation models, improving the effectiveness of post-rehabilitation and controlling the growing of drug-contained trees, he added.

Since 1998, the trilateral/bilateral mechanisms on drug control cooperation between Cambodia, Laos, Viet Nam has been formed and promoted, Lam said, asking the three nations to continue coordinating and mobilizing all internal and external resources to support for drug prevention and control works.

It is necessary to join hands in effectively struggling against trans-border drug trafficking, improving the effectiveness of drug rehabilitation and enhancing the capacity for staff in charge of drug prevention and control, he said.

At the meeting, delegates from the three nations discussed to propose specific, feasible and effective ways in line with communications methods to cope with trans-national drug crimes.
