10 remarkable environment events in 2018

VGP – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on January 3 announced 10 remarkable events in 2018, including remarks in management works and outstanding activities of the sector in the year.

The Law on Measurement and Map was approved by the 14th National Assembly

1- Resolution 36-NQ/TW, issued by the 12th Party Central Committee on October 22, with a vision through 2045, aims to turn Viet Nam into a strong sea-based nation with sustainable development, prosperity, security and safety and marine economic activities greatly contributing to the national economy.

2- The Law on Measurement and Map was approved by the 14th National Assembly, marking the first time activities regarding to measurement and map have been standardized. 

3- A number of guidelines on land management, environmental protection and climate change adaption were comprehensively evaluated such as assessing the implementation of Resolution No.24-NQ/TW climate change improvement of natural resource management. 

4- The PM issued Directive No. 27/CT-TTg on solutions for management of scrap import and use of imported scrap. 

Viet Nam made its first organization of the 6th Global Environment Facility (GEF-6)

5- Viet Nam made its first organization of the 6th Global Environment Facility (GEF-6), which attracted the participation of nearly 1,500 delegates who were Government leaders, ministers in charge of environment from 183 nations, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, international financial institutions and development partners. 

6- The imitative on the establishment of a global cooperative mechanism and regional partnership in East Asia on addressing ocean plastic waste pollution towards clean and green oceans of no plastic waste was proposed by the Vietnamese PM at the expanded G7 Summit in Canada and the GEF-6. 

Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark was honored as a UNESCO global geopark

7- Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark was honored as a UNESCO global geopark, making it the second Vietnamese geopark to be awarded the title, following the recognition of Dong Van Karst Plateau in Ha Giang province in December 2010. Non Nuoc Cao Bang is home to fossils, ocean sediment, volcanic rocks, minerals, and especially karst landscapes, which can give researchers an insight into an over-500-million-year history of the Earth.

8- Ha Noi, the first city nationwide invested in air monitoring network system in line with the standards of the national environmental monitoring network in a synchronous and modern manner. 

9- The implementation of e-Government, application of information technology, administrative reform and reduction of business conditions and procedure of specialized inspection in natural resources and environment were promoted. As many as 102 of the 163 business conditions (accounting for 62.6%) and 38 out of 74 specialized inspections (making up 51.3%) were eliminated. 

10. Water was found in Bach Long Vi Island in the northern city of Hai Phong.
